Deventer Op Stelten 2021 with "Binnen de Perken"
Every year there is a large theater festival full of art and performances in Deventer. Where the 2020 edition was canceled due to Coronavirus, it will be in a modified form this year. This year it is not a weekend, but Deventer has turned into a theater city for 10(!) days.
Deventer Op Stelten
This theater festival attracts about 125,000 visitors who watch more than 150 performances together. These performances come from our own Netherlands and normally also from the rest of Europe (France, Germany, England and Belgium). In this edition it is mainly Dutch performances, but also from other countries.
Where in previous years the entire Brink was completely filled with people, this year is different. This year's theme is "Within the Perks" that has been taken into account. With 10 days of all kinds of different performances, Deventer turned into one big theater.
You will find these performances throughout Deventer. View from the terrace on the Brink, one of the other squares, in the park, in the historic streets, the churches or at other various (smaller) locations. Combine one of the performances with a visit to one of my favorite hotspots in Deventer.

When
From Friday 2 to Sunday 11 July 2021, this annual theater festival Deventer Op Stelten 2021 Binnen de Perken will take place in the old historic city center of and outside (Worpplatsoen/Burgerhaven) the city center of Deventer.
The performances are on weekdays between 3 pm and 10 pm and on weekends between 12 noon and 11 pm.
Entry & Tickets
A limited number of visitors are allowed to each performance and therefore reservation is mandatory. The price for a ticket is € 3.50. For this you will receive a consumption coin that you can exchange at various catering establishments.
You can only go to these 3 without reservation: Installation of "dRift van Ilotopie", walk "Een Blauwe Vogel" and the performance "The Tube van TAMTAM objectentheater".
This is what you can expect
In the previous years (read here 2018 and 2019) it was an open city festival but this year it's totally different. They are 10 days instead of a weekend and 1-on-1 performances, where you sit down with up to max. 30 others. There are also installation performances and theatrical walks through Deventer.
The program is full of theater companies (11 Dutch premieres and there is one world premiere) performing intimate performances, acrobatics and circus theatre, urban dance, music theater and more.
For example, on the Worpplatsoen (across the IJssel, on foot or by ferry) there is a circus performance, where you go from wagon to wagon yourself.
Or will you see three acrobats (Knot on Hands) who push the limits of balance and come up with new ways to move through space.
And if you've had enough of theater in the open air, there's always " Hoogtevrees". In the garden of the Burgerweeshuis (9 to 11 July) you can enjoy many bands, snacks and drinks.
